Fix: Your Device Is Missing Important Security and Quality Fixes

Every few weeks, Windows updates are implemented to ensure that every bug is patched and all the new security functions added. However, errors can also occur, which prevents the update phase, which can typically result in serious system problems.

In the past, many users have reported “Your device is missing important security and quality fixes” error on their update page. In general, this kind of error message is an essential reminder for downloading important changes, but even though all updates have been installed, the users receive this message. In summary, an error message will continue to show you to install updates even though updates are not available.

Reasons

The key reason is a broken or unfinished Windows Upgrade Installation. Often, the updates are not correctly installed due to a breakdown or corrupt file. In the list of installed Windows Updates, an unfinished Windows Update implementation will appear, but it won’t function properly and force Windows to display the error.

Another reason could be Telemetry Level. There is an alternative to monitoring the telemetry levels in the Windows Group Policy Editor. Some Windows Updates are not transmitted to your device (particularly cumulative updates) if your Telemetry level is set to security only.

How to Fix “Your Device Is Missing Important Security and Quality Fixes” Error

Solution # 1 – Uninstall and Reinstall Windows Update

The rational way of solving the issue is to uninstall and reinstall the updates since Windows Updates can be broken. Some updates are known to trigger this, so we’ll begin with them.

  • Press Win Key + R to open the Run command box
  • Type appwiz.cpl in the Run command box and press Enter
  • Select View Installed Updates option
  • Search Update KB4100347 and/or KB4457128 and select one of them.
  • Click Uninstall. Uninstall both of them in case of both updates
  • Go to settings after uninstalling and select Update and Security
  • Check for Updates

Solution # 2 – Change in Telemetry Level

We cannot tell whether it is a bug or a Microsoft option, but the device will not receive cumulative updates if the telemetry level is configured only to Security. So the matter can easily be settled by shifting the telemetry level into another.

  • Press Win Key + R to open the Run command box
  • Type gpedit.msc in the Run command box and press Enter
  • Now select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds from the left menu
  • Search Allow Telemetry and click on it
  • Select Enabled
  • Select an option based on your preference (Basic or Enhanced or Full) but not Security
  • Click on Apply, then OK
  • Check if the issue persists

Solution # 3 – Troubleshoot

  • Go to settings
  • Select Update and Security
  • Select Troubleshoot from the left menu
  • Click on Run the troubleshooter.

Solution # 4 – Repair corrupted Windows files

  • Type cmd in Windows search bar, right-click on command prompt, and select Run as administrator
  • Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth in the command prompt and press Enter
  • Type sfc /scannow after finishing the process and press Enter
  • When it is done, close the command prompt and see if the issue persists

Solution # 5- Reset Windows Update Service

  1. Type cmd in Windows search bar, right-click on command prompt and select Run as administrator
  2. Type the following commands one by one followed by the Enter key:
  • net stop wuauserv
  • net stop cryptSvc
  • net stop bits net stop msiserver
  • Ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  • Ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 Catroot2.old
