The HR department is a large organization that has many responsibilities. An HR department needs to have the following three qualities. The first quality of an HR department should be consistency. The employees need to know what they can expect from their superiors and other managerial staff at all times.

Employees want respect, too, not just from management but also from colleagues who are on the same level – this means being treated with dignity by those above you and kindness by those below you. Also, HR departments need to be organized, or they won’t be able to do their job. Without these qualities, the HR department cannot achieve these 4 things.

1. Training

An HR department has to be organized so they can effectively train their employees. The training should be specific to the company and its needs. Training is important because it helps reduce employee turnover from lack of job satisfaction, which costs businesses billions every year

A great way HR departments keep track of employees and their training and achievements is through an HRIS system that integrates all the information into one system. Employee training saves companies lots of money in the long run by having a more qualified and experienced workforce.

2. Recruitment

The HR department is also responsible for recruitment, which includes recruiting new employees and introducing new positions within the hiring process. When hiring, the department needs to find people who not only meet qualifications and can do the job but will be a good fit for the company culture

Not every person who does well in an interview is going to work out in an actual job. Hiring someone that isn’t right for the company can cause them to quit or lower morale, which is disruptive to work productivity.

The HR department also needs to have some screening process to know what kind of people they are bringing into the company and that they will fit in with everyone else – this means following up after phone interviews and finding out something more about potential employees than just their experience and references. 

They need to see that the person is a good fit and works well with others. They also need to know that this new employee will get along with everyone else in the department and not cause any unnecessary conflicts.

Companies should have a system in place, so they are paying each employee fairly for their position and skillset. Paying people somewhat makes employees feel more appreciated, which means they will be more likely to stay with the company longer, increasing motivation and work productivity. The HR department partakes in this activity by adhering to company policy and negotiating with employees on pay increases.

Fair payments are necessary because it encourages employees to stay with a company longer if they feel that they are being paid fairly and not just enough to keep them from quitting. Paying people fairly leads to increased morale, which leads to more productivity in the workplace. The HR department is responsible for representing employees by ensuring their rights are protected and not stepping on anyone’s toes.

4. Improving Workplace Conditions

The HR department is responsible for improving workplace conditions by ensuring equipment is available, working well, and enjoyable to use. Basically, ensuring all of the things within an office are up to snuff makes employees happier because if their surroundings are comfortable and the equipment is up to their standards, they will be more eager to go to work.

The HR department also works on reducing disciplinary issues to improve workplace conditions and work ethics. Employees should be held accountable for their actions, and this helps keep resolution rates low and morale high by following the chain of command and what is outlined in personnel files. 

Accountability also helps reduce disciplinary issues simply because it makes people think before they act. A good HR department needs to follow disciplinary procedures every time an infraction happens so that we don’t have a situation where someone can just walk all over others and get away with it. This is not fair to anyone involved – especially management when you consider how much they are already doing for the co-workers beneath them. 

By having these qualities, an HR department can achieve many things for a company. An experienced HR department can help train employees, recruit better candidates that fit into the company culture and structure, ensure employees are paid fairly and incentivized with benefits like bonuses or PTO and improve workplace conditions so employees feel comfortable and enjoy working every day.
