Today, I am here with the HyperX Cloud Revolver S review; it’s one of the finest headsets, offering crisp sound, boasting a cozy, sturdy design. The new HyperX Revolver S follows its predecessors’ simple designed ethos coupled with a variety of audio preset options and an amazing plug-and-play virtual surround sound.
HyperX’s latest gaming headset is more versatile than the previous ones; the only thing that lets you think otherwise is its not-very-annoying mixed surround performance.

Design – A closer look at Cloud Revolver S
The HyperX Cloud Revolver S is quite identical to its original successor, having the same steel frame and aggressive-looking ear cups; the major outlook difference is the white highlights instead of standard red, it’s a welcoming sign as many gaming peripherals are like they’ve just been soaked in blood.
Inside its steel frame, there are some rubber inserts attached – they are not just for looks, but actually controls the vibration absorption; unfortunately, I still noticed some level of vibrations in the frame, HyperX, you still need to work on it, dude!
Talking about its comfort and overall usage, thank God, the Revolver S has minimal clamping force, which is something I personally like very much in a gaming headset.
Make sure the headset doesn’t fall off your head and smash into the floor when you bend over – just to pick up anything or scratch your foot; despite being closed back and leather earcups, you won’t have trouble wearing it for extended hours.
Sweaty note: If you’re a sweaty gamer, take regular breaks from the headsets.
The build quality looks and feels premium, I believe it’s because of the nice matte rubber finish, and its tough metal frame. Worry not, HyperX Cloud Revolver S is not overly “gamery;” you can use for other tasks as well.
The microphone is the only weak point in the design; though being durable, bendable, and rip-free, the given mic is not like a contortionist that can bend easily and stays in whatever position a gamer likes.
The Cloud Revolver S uses braided cables – kinda rigid; the length of the cable is about three feet from the headphones, it’s manageable length to reach the USB control panel. From then onwards, the cable gets insanely long – eight feet;. if you’re close to the computer, the cable feels excessive but fine with far-kept consoles.
The cable is compatible with PC, PS4 Pro, and other USB-supported devices. Even its 3-pole 3.5mm jack also lets it plug into any device you want, be it your smartphone or Xbox One X.
Now, the most important thing… performance!!
Performance of HyperX Cloud Revolver S Features
To clear your understanding, I am dividing this part into three parts.
1. Gaming Audio
To check HyperX Cloud Revolver S for in-game audio, I played Hyperscape and Apex Legends; why did I choose these titles? As these games emphasize more on crucial positional awareness in a competitive shooting environment.
Using the 7.1 Surround Sound with Cloud Revolver S, I experienced a distancing effect; I felt as if I was further away from the sounds’ origin. This effect was good, especially for listening to environmental movements and tracking enemies, though the sound became clouded and muddy when in close proximity.
The 7.1 Surround Sound mode was quite better than the stereo one as it was quite flat and bass lacking. Ultimately, I believe this depends on what kind of game, and whether the audio engine for the title supports 7.1 Surround Sound.
2. Microphone
As I have already mentioned that the Revolver S is a decent headset microphone; you may feel some level of hissing when you pronounce words like ‘Revolver S.’
I guess this is a common problem with every other headset microphone!
Despite its finicky flexibility, this microphone is a solid choice for gaming, even though it also cleared the noise-canceling testing successfully. The most-identical change from the Revolver to the Revolver S you will see is the addition of Dolby 7.1 surround sound, other than the stereo, which you can activate without any additional software.
Being Dolby DSP means some noise, but thank God, the noise-to-signal ratio of Revolver S is good, and the interference also gets covered up quickly.
Activating surround sound will polish some of the environmental details and sound your game a bit louder, and yes, it will also create a sometimes-muddy sound that may annoy you, for that matter, simply switch back to the standard mode.
The headset offers three equalizers presets – standard mode, bass-boost mode (with some extra kicks), and a flat and dialogue mode (for highs and lows).
3. Movie/Music Listening
The Revolver S surprisingly held its ground in listening to music and movies; this preset worked best in the stereo mode.
Initially, you may feel noise due to the Dolby digital signal processing, but after a while, you will feel that it spreads out all the elements in the song, lending you an almost live feel.
You will love its well-designed USB soundbox that has a decent set of big buttons – to instantly activate Dolby surround or mute the mic, even volume button, convenient button (for switching sound presets), and mic sliders are also a breeze.

What’s HOT, What’s NOT
The HyperX Revolver S is an impressive headset both for their crisp, clear audio and all-day comfort, thanks to their oversized cushioned earcups; not only for gaming, this headset is also a good option if you wear them around.
The best thing is that there’s no software to install; operating all three presets is also easy. Loaded with nice features, Revolver S is more adaptable than the original Revolver, even the microphone also sounds better, and the given virtual 7.1 support will let you do much more than gaming.
The only drawback is its design – the metal frame reverbs some sound, and maybe, you find the headset far too loose; other than this, HyperX Revolver S is the king of the mid-range gaming headsets.
Well, with HyperX Cloud Revolver S, you can enjoy ten hours of gaming on a lazy weekend non-disturbingly.
